Empowering Sustainable Urban Mobility: Biocon at the Yellow Line Inauguration
When Bhavya Nair, Senior Scientist, and Padmapriya, Principal Scientist, were chosen to represent Biocon at the inauguration of Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they described the experience as nothing short of “surreal.”
From the anxious wait before the ceremony, to the privilege of a brief interaction with the Prime Minister, to the pride of stepping onto the Biocon Hebbagodi Station, it was truly an assortment of once-in-a-lifetime moments for our colleagues.
It was more than just a metro ride; it was a proud moment having to converse with the Prime Minister, represent Biocon, and showcase how biotechnology is shaping a more sustainable future.

For Bhavya Nair, Senior Scientist at Biocon, the anxious wait before the ceremony, to the privilege of a brief interaction with the Prime Minister, to the first-ever Metro Ride in Yellow Line, the experience was as much as exciting and humbling for her.

“Representing Biocon was a huge honor for me, and completely overwhelming. The Metro train passing is visible from my office, and it reminds me of the moment we had with the Prime Minister and my first ride on the Yellow Line during the inauguration.”

For Padmapriya, Principal Scientist at Biocon, boarding the Biocon Hebbagodi Metro Station every day during her commute is nothing short of a profound source of pride. She had the unique opportunity to introduce herself to the Prime Minister as a scientist and was proud to be contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission and discussing Bio E3 Policy.

“I have to commute with a 2-year old child to-and fro daily, so the metro will be very helpful, as there is last-mile connectivity and both my residence and workplace are in the close proximity to the stations.”
Padmapriya, Principal Scientist at Biocon
The line was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on August 10th, who also acknowledged the contributions of Biocon along with Infosys Foundation and Delta Electronics towards construction of the Yellow Line.
In his inauguration speech he appreciated the public-private partnerships in India that gave a boost to green urban development.
“Bengaluru Metro has also given the country a new model of public infrastructure development. Many important stations have been part funded by companies like Infosys Foundation, Biocon, and Delta Electronics. This model of using CSR is a great inspiration. I congratulate the corporate sector for this innovative effort.”
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi
